The main objective of this department is, above all, to serve the process of healthy governance of the Kurdistan Region with a scientific and academic spirit. This is achieved through two paths: first, by providing capable and knowledgeable cadres with cognitive and scientific backgrounds to the main institutions of the Kurdistan Region and institutional management bodies. Second, through the research and consultation that this department provides to decision-making centers.
VisionPolitical systems and public policy are important and necessary for universities in general, as well as for the government and official institutions of the Kurdistan Region in particular. Due to the advancement of political sciences and the emergence of several specialized experts in this field, establishing a specialized department in political systems and the methods of creating and managing public policy has become a contemporary necessity in the academic and political life of the Kurdistan Region. In this framework, considering the importance of finding a healthy foundation for the political system on one hand, and how the Kurdistan Region is governed on the other hand, this department gains its importance, especially when the current trend of advanced universities worldwide is moving toward very specialized expertise at the university level. Therefore, our department, alongside the advancement of political sciences, has gained contemporary importance.
As a result of studying in this department, students gain expertise in a set of specialized subjects related to political systems and public policy. In general, students become proficient in:
- Understanding the functioning methods of political systems, benefiting from the experience of political systems of countries in different regions of the world.
- Understanding the methods of formulating public policy, implementing public policy, analyzing public policy, and evaluating public policy.
- Understanding government affairs and local administrations, within the framework of administrative decentralization.
- Understanding institutional work and management of public issues.
